Edward J. & wf. Lillie K. (Easterday) Utterback bought the Lewistown house at 10940 Hessong Bridge Road in 1908 from Christopher and Susan Baker, the property described as lying on both sides of the then Washington, Frederick, & Gettysburg Railroad line headed to the Western Maryland Mainline in Thurmont. [Fred.Co.Land Deed HWB 314:299] In 1929, Mr. & Mrs. Utterback sold the property to their daughter Hazel Blanche Utterback and her husband Oran Clayton Lease for the sum of $3,500 in agreement that they would retain life estate in their home on the property. [Fred.Co.Land Deed EGH 372:241] Not even two years later, in November 1932, Oran C. Lease sold the property to Edith Marie Utterback, another daughter Mr. & Mrs. Utterback, and her husband Irvin J. Ramsburg. [Fred.Co.Land Deed EGH 372:241] Lease’s sale was prompted by the death of his wife, Hazel B. (Utterback) Lease who passed away after a short illness at just thirty-one years of age. Mr. Lease went to Frederick with him and Hazel’s infant-daughter, Doris Jean, and was later remarried. Edith (Utterback) & hus. Irvin J. Ramsburg paid $3,000 for the property and honored Mrs. Ramsburg’s parents’ life estate there. Mrs. Utterback, Lillie K. (Easterday), passed away in 1932 and in 1934 her daughter Edith Ramsburg sold the “North west” portion of the property to her brother Lester E. Utterback and his wife Edith (Fogle) Utterback, using the “Thurmont Branch” of the H&F Railroad (previously the WF&G) as the parcels’ division line. [Fred.Co.Land Deed EGH 390:409] Edward J. Utterback passed in 1937 and that same year Irvin & Edith Ramsburg sold her parent’s home to J. Oscar Putman & wf. Eva V. Putman. [Fred.Co.Land Deed ECW 409:60]
