Here's a matchbook from Strube's Amoco Service located at the intersection of US 15 and Rte. 81 in Thurmont. This spot is now home to the Thurmont CVS. At the time this matchbook was printed, US 15 ran through Thurmont and turned onto Emmitsburg Road and headed North, Rte. 81 is now known as Rte 550. The photo shows the garage around 1970 when the signage read American. Amoco (American Oil Company) and American were both trade names of the same company. I think Strube owned the gas station on the right side of North Church Street just up from the square. After moving to this building the old gas station became Zentz Auto Sales.
