H&F RR Freight Motor No 1 at the side of Memorial Park in Thurmont on October 14, 1945. No 1 is about to cross East Main Street and stop at the H&F Station. At 56" in length No 1 was the largest piece of equipment on the H&F. Built by the Southern Car Company in 1908 as a 6,600 volt Alternating Curent passenger coach for the Annapolis Short Line she was rebuilt as Freight Motor No 17 in 1917 for the Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis Railway. In 1935 she was sold to the Captal Transit Company and renumbered No. 017 before being acquired by the H&F in 1945 as Freight Motor No 1. She had Baldwin MCB trucks powered by four Westinghouse 577W8 (140p) motors with HL controls.
