This is an interior vew of H&F RR Freight Motor No 5. As you can see this was a freight car with no seating. At the near right can be seen a milk can indicative of the wide range of freight No 5 would have carried between Thurmont and Frederick. The motorman is looking out of one the two freight doors set in the middle of the car, one on each side. At the far end you can see the motorman seat on the right with the controls in front of the seat and the brake wheel at the left. Each end of the car would have had a similar set up, allowing the car to run in either direction. Note the double string of light bulbs running down the center of the ceiling. There appears to be steel air tanks at both ends of the car, these probably served as air reservoirs for the air-brakes. Each car would have had an air compressor to power the air-brakes. This photo is not dated but it would be safe to assume that the interior on No 5 remained pretty much as it is seen here through it's entire life of service.
