H&F RR No 172 on a siding at the Frederick Yard. Note that to the left of No 172 sit two buses belonging to the Blue Ridge Transportation Company. These buses, owned by H&F RR parent company P&E would eventually put the trolley out of business. The buses offered a wider and more regular range of routes and even offered special pckage deals for picnics and organized trips, just as the trolley had for many years.
No. 172 was a Combine built by Brill and acquired in 1921, she was 48'-4" in length and had 48 seats. With Baldwin trucks with four GE 201A (50hp) motors and K35G2 Controls she was retired in 1954 after making the last trolley run to Thurmont on Feb. 20, 1954.
