During the Second World War model aircraft building was all the rage. Here in Thurmont, there was a club dedicated to Model Aircraft building and George Wireman was a member. Here are some photos that were taken by George of him and his friends showing their planes. Bill Rice told me there was a group of young me that would gather in the basement of Wisotskeys store on the square and build aircraft. In the film Thurmont on Parade, you can see several young men including Bill Rice studying aircraft silhouettes. Even in a small town like Thurmont, there were measures being taken to identify aircraft and to prepare aerial attacks.

This appears to be George Wireman working on a model aircraft in his bedroom. The bed was probably the largest flat surface he had to work on. It looks like he has two separate model designs laid out.
