Typically it is hard to date matchbook covers, but not in this case! The inside of the Wilhide Chevrolet and Oldsmobile matchbook notes the Chevy lineup for the 1965 season. The matchbook could have been from late 1964 or early 1965. My dad bought a Chevy II station wagon from Wilhide and we got remarkable service from it for several years. At this time new models were kept under wraps until they were unveiled on the showroom floor. I remember seeing car carriers at the time with the cars wrapped up in drop cloths.

This is a detail of the photo of Calvin (Pub) George Wilhide with one of his racehorses. Pud was a local businessman and horse racing fan. He owned the Wilhide Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealership on Water Street. This photo was found in the attic of the house at 15 Carroll Street in Thurmont.
