I picked up a neat dealer license plate issued in 1960 to Leisner Ford in Thurmont! This is one of only a few items I have seen from Leisner Ford. Leisner was located at 206 North Church Street in the vacant lot at the corner of Woodside. Vic Leisner purchased the Ford dealership from Henry Martin. The business was originally known as the Thurmont Motor Company and was located at this site since the early 1910s. In later years it became the O'Toole Brothers Garage, then Martin Ford, and finally Leisner Ford. There are very few items to be found for any of these businesses.

When I first saw the tag I wondered how we would know it was from Leisner's Ford in Thurmont. When I turned it over, there was the original registration card riveted to the back of the plate!

The registration card shows the date it was purchased, the name of the dealership, and the address. I wonder who may have test-driven a vehicle from Leisner Ford with this tag on it?

Thanks to Linda Lewis for providing this great little memory for us to enjoy! How many remember getting our hunting license at Donald Lewis's Sorting Goods store? This hunting license holder belonged to Linda's husband Darrell and he probably pinned to the back of his canvas hunting jacket just like the rest of us. Over the years Donald must have issued thousands of hunting licenses and probably handed out hundreds of the holders! This is a great little piece featuring an advertisement for his sporting goods store.

Hunting licenses were required to be displayed on your person. These license holders could be pinned to your jacket and every year you would just insert the new license. This holder is from Donald Lewis's store on the Square in Thurmont.

Thurmont Mayor Terry Best, assisted by Betty Jean Long cuts the ribbon to officially open the Long Pool Center. This business was located in the old Stocksdale Store at Carroll Street and the  Western Maryland Railway.
