I have heard of a photographer named Buhrman who had a studio in Graceham, but this is the first photograph I have seen with his stamp on it. I am sure there are others out there, and I would love to see them.

This is a small photograph of two young girls seated against a picket fence, taken in the Summer of 1904 probably at their home. The girl on the right is Perla M. Pyle, her father, Calvin Pyle, owned the Warehouse in Graceham along the railroad tracks next to the Moravian Cemetery. The young lady on the left is H. Catherine Colliflower

As was typical of the time, the photograph was pasted onto a paperboard backing by the photographer. The back of the picture features the stamp reading W. G. Buhrman, Photographer, Graceham, MD. At the turn of the twentieth century, most small communities had a photographer, even those as small as Graceham. In the days of horse-powered transportation, each community had its own conveniences, like hotels, general stores, doctors, mills, schools, harness makers, and photographers, among others.
