I picked up this little advertising fan for the Thurmont Motor Sales. This business was located on North Church Street at the corner of Woodside and over the years was known as Thurmont Motor Sales, O'Toole Brothers, Martin Ford, and Leisner Ford. Note the Lincoln-Ford-Fordson lineup, many Ford dealers sold the Fordson line of farm tractors. Ford Repairing a Specialty and Quick Road Service were important details. In the time before large numbers of local telephones, the numbers were easier to remember, especially the two-digit ones like Phone 78. The owner is shown as Ralph A. Putman
This fan probably dates from the 1920s or 1930s and has a nice advertisement on one side a colorful scene of the other. Fans like this were a very popular giveaway before the widespread use of air conditioning. The majority of the fans I have seen for the Thurmont area were produced for the M. L. Creager Funeral Home.
