This is a rare color slide view of a Thurmont Parade taken in July 1957. The American Legion Color Guard is leading the parade. Several buildings in the background remain today while others have been removed. At the right is Rentzels Thurmont Tavern, Buddy Powell owned the place for several years, and David 'Skipper' Misner had the tavern for 28 years, this is now home to the 10Tavern (2023). In the center can be seen the Masonic Building with the Post Office on the first floor. The Post Office moved to its Water Street location in 1960 and this storefront housed Doc August's Pharmacy for many years and currently houses a second-hand shop. Note the airconditioner in the second-floor window, that was Dr. Grey's Office At the left are three buildings that were removed to make way for the Thurmont branch of the Farmers and Mechanics Bank, now the PNC Bank. The first of these was owned by Mr. Albaugh when it was removed. This building had a small shop on the far end where C.R.R. 'Charlie' Back had his Photo and Art Shop. In later years it was used as an office by Judge Stoner and then a ladies clothing store for a few years. The second building was a double house. The large white building at the left was home to Thumornt Mayor Omer J. Dubel. It then served as the Matthews apartment building for many years before being removed.
