This detail shows the center of Thurmont from the carnival grounds to Altamont Avenue. In the foreground there is a large open space at the right, this is where the GHC carnival grounds are located. To the left of the open space is the large white building that housed the Thurmont Ice Company. Theses building were originally known as the Casket Factory when they were owned by the Smith Brothers funrishing compnay. They built furniture and caskets in the building and had a store front on Wast Main directly in front of the factory. Straight up from the Ice Conmpany is the Turmont TOwn hall, a white building with a small bnell towwr at it's top. Thius building served as town hall, fire station and opra house until it was torn down in 1951 to make way for the original Guardian Hose Company Fire Station. To the left of the town hall is St. John Lutheran Church and to the right is the old Thurmont Methodist Church. To the right of the Methodist Church can be seen the spire of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church hiddden behind the pine trees.
