This view up East Main Street toward the square was taken on December 7, 1970. The photographer was probably standing in front of Memorial Park. These are the Christmas decoration I remember when I lived at on West Main Street in the early 1970's. The small globes strung on the greenery were red, green and yellow. There was a bell in a wreath at the center of each string. These lights were sold to another community, I think it was Biglerville, PA. The white angels were purchased when these lights were removed.
This photo was run in the Baltimore Sun with the following caption.  "EARLY CHRISTMAS - Holiday signs come early in Thurmont, Md, where the downtown streets are filled with decorations and reminders of yuletide spirit."
